Massachusetts school district discloses document destruction
August 24, 2011 08:22PM
Franklin Public Schools in Franklin, Massachusetts, recently revealed that it will soon destroy various student records in accordance with state laws.

According to a recent Milford Daily News report, the Franklin Public School Department plans to comply with the Student Records Regulations, Chapter 71 and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Law and Regulations in destroying student data.

Documents contain information on all students "who received special education services, transferred, terminated, withdrew, were released from these services, or graduated from Franklin Public Schools during the 1995 to 2004," the Daily News reported.

"The information that will be destroyed consists of Special Education Individual Educational Plans, psychological, specialist or medical evaluations and reports, and home/school correspondence," the report continued.

Experts agree that utilizing the shredding services of a records management company is the best way to properly destroy information. A provider will ensure that all compliance and data protection needs are met.

That was also the message of data management officials in Greenville, South Carolina, recently. According to a GreenvilleOnline.com report, companies should shred contracts, customer information, bank statements and tax documents, among other information.
